Left Hand Brewing – 400 Pound Monkey – IPA
Appearance: Cloudy tangerine with a fizzy head and bubbly lacing.
Aroma: Floral, leafy, smoky and spicy clove.
Taste: Bitter citrus & herbal at first, but the hops begin to mellow as some sweet (maybe honey)malt kicks in.
Mouthfeel: Smooth consistency with an almost creamy carbonation. Medium body with a double finish.
A nice change of pace for the IPA world, especially with the sweet notes in the middle and the English ale base. Also somes with a unique finish that goes away and comes back a few moments later for another bite. I feel that this beer is mild enough to introduce IPAs to the uninitiated. -87/100-
